Die Konrad Fischer Galerie freut sich sehr, neue Arbeiten von Daniel Buren zu präsentieren, der bereits seit mehr als fünfzig Jahren durch Interventionen und Arbeiten im öffentlichem Raum und im institutionellen Kontext internationale Bekanntheit erlangt hat. Schon seit den frühen 1960er Jahren zeigt Daniel Buren Arbeiten, die das Wechselverhältnis von Kunst, ihrer Umgebung und ihren Bedingtheiten diskutieren, wobei ein konzeptueller, analytischer und radikaler Zugang zur Malerei im Mittelpunkt des Schaffens steht. Seit 1965 verwendet der Künstler seine 8,7 cm Vertikal-Streifen, die er als „Nullpunkt der Malerei“ definiert und die seither zu seinem Markenzeichen geworden sind. In Düsseldorf sind seine Interventionen „in situ“ im öffentlichen Raum spätestens seit 1968 bekannt, als Daniel Buren erstmals bei Konrad Fischer ausstellte und mit seinen Arbeiten an vielen Orten in der Stadt, darunter bei „prospect ’68“ in der Kunsthalle Düsseldorf, präsent war.
Daniel Buren wurde 1938 in Boulogne-Billancourt geboren. Frankreich vertrat er auf zahlreichen Biennalen, darunter allein zehn Teilnahmen an der Biennale in Venedig, wo er 1986 den Goldenen Löwen erhielt. Seine Arbeiten wurden auf der Documenta 5 und 7 gezeigt und bei den Skulptur Projekten Münster. 2007 wurde er mit dem Praemium Imperiale für Malerei geehrt.
Zu seinen bedeutendsten Ausstellungen zählen u.a. die im Palais des Beaux-Arts, Brüssel (2016), im Guggenheim Museum, New York City (2005), im Centre Pompidou, Paris (2002) und aktuelle Ausstellungen im Museo Aguascalientes, Mexico (2016), im Strombeek Cultural Center, Gent (2016), im MADRE, Neapel (2015), im Musée de Picardie, Amiens (2016), im Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art, Gateshead (2014), im Musée d'Art Moderne et Contemporain, Strasbourg (2014), im Centre Pompidou-Metz (2013) und im Grand Palais, Paris, im Rahmen der Monumenta (2012), sowie die Projekte L’Observatoire de la lumière, Fondation Louis Vuitton, Paris (2016), die Skywalks am Hunter College, New York (2016) und Diamonds and Circles in der Tottenham Court Road Station, London Underground (2017).

Celebrating its 50th anniversary, Konrad Fischer Galerie is very glad to present new works by Daniel Buren, who, for even more than fifty years, has created interventions and artworks in public space and within institutional context. Since the early 1960s, Daniel Buren has introduced works that discuss the relationship between art, its environment and its preconditions, especially focussed on a conceptual, analytical and radical approach towards painting. Already in 1965 he began using his 8.7 cm-wide vertical stripes researching what he called a “degree zero of painting”. In Düsseldorf, his public interventions ‘in situ’ have been shown several times all over the city since 1968, most famous at „prospect ’68“ at Kunsthalle Düsseldorf and during his first show at Konrad Fischer.
Daniel Buren was born in Boulogne-Billancourt, France in 1938. He represented France at Venice Biennial in 1986 winning him the Golden Lion Award. Moreover, he showed more than ten times in Venice and has been widely shown in Biennials and Art Festivals internationally, like Documenta 5 and 7, and Skulptur Projekte in Münster. In 2007, he received the Praemium Imperiale for Painting from Japan.
