Jan Dibbets   |   DÜSSELDORF   15.01.16 - 05.03.16

In a solo exhibition, Konrad Fischer Galerie gladly presents new works by Jan Dibbets created in 2014 and 2015. Both, the new series „Venetian Blinds“ and „Color Studies“ are based on photographs already made in the early 1970s.
Jan Dibbets seminal and innovative work indicates a fundamental turn in the history of photography - a turn from fine-art photography towards a more conceptual approach from artists using photography, parallel to developments in Minimal and Conceptual Art. Since the late 1960s, Dibbets primarily focused problems of perception and optical illusion in his multifaceted oeuvre while he was exploring the inconsistency of our concept of reality and its construction in the field of contemporary photography.
Besides his participation in documenta 5, 6 and 7 and Venice Biennials of 1972, 1978, 1980 and 1988, Dibbets’ works have been exhibited along with those of Lawrence Weiner, Carl Andre, Richard Long and Sol LeWitt in legendary shows like "Live In Your Head: When Attitudes Become Form" (Kunsthalle Bern, 1969) and "Op Losse Schroeven / Everything Is Uncertain – Situations and Cryptostructures" (Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, 1969). Recently, the works of Jan Dibbets have been featured at shows at Art Institute Chicago, at Musée d’art moderne de la Ville de Paris and at Cultuurcentrum Mechelen and Strombeek. From 1984 till 2004 Jan Dibbets has been teaching at Academy of Fine Arts Düsseldorf.
