CARL ANDRE - SQUARE VOID WORKS | DÜSSELDORF 15.03.19 - 04.05.19
When Carl Andre opened the exhibition space of Konrad Fischer in 1967 with Altstadt Rectangle, a floor piece consisting of 100 identical steel plates, it marked the start of a now more than 50-year-long intensive cooperation. It was the first European solo show by the American artist whose oeuvre radically changed the concept of sculpture.
Konrad Fischer Galerie is pleased to open the exhibition Carl Andre - Square Void Works on March 15. The Square Void Works address both the basic form of the rectangle and the void in its midst. The basic modules of the new body of works are steel plates measuring 40 x 40 cm each. Carl Andre has repeatedly engaged with the void in his art, a highly impressive example being the piece for the Synagogue Stommeln, The Void enclosed by the Squares of three, four and five, 1997. According to the theorem of Pythagoras, he used three differently sized squares to create a right triangle as a void in the middle.
We additionally present the Second Range Works, a group comprising eight works, each consisting of 60 equilateral brick triangles.

Als Carl Andre 1967 den Ausstellungsraum von Konrad Fischer mit einer aus 100 identischen Stahlplatten bestehenden Bodenarbeit, dem Altstadt Rectangle eröffnete, war dies der Ausgangspunkt einer inzwischen über 50jährigen intensiven Zusammenarbeit. Es war die erste europäische Einzelausstellung des amerikanischen Künstlers, der mit seinem Werk den Begriff von Skulptur radikal veränderte.
Die Konrad Fischer Galerie freut sich, am Freitag, 15. März in Düsseldorf die Ausstellung Carl Andre - Square Void Works zu eröffnen. Die Square Void Works thematisieren sowohl die Grundform des Quadrats als auch die Leere in ihrer Mitte. Das Grundmodul der neuen Werkgruppe sind Stahlplatten, je 40 x 40 cm. Carl Andre hat sich in seinem umfangreichen Oeuvre mehrfach mit der Leere, dem Void auseinandergesetzt, sehr eindrücklich in dem Werk für die Synagoge Stommeln The Void enclosed by the Squares of three, four and five, 1997. Gemäß dem Satz des Pythagoras schuf er dort mit drei verschieden großen Quadraten ein rechtwinkliges Dreieck als Leere in ihrer Mitte.
Daneben präsentieren wir die Second Range Works, eine Gruppe von acht Werken, bestehend jeweils aus 60 gleichseitigen Ziegeldreiecken.
