Die Konrad Fischer Galerie freut sich, im Rahmen der Ausstellung „New Works“ kürzlich entstandene Skulpturen von Tony Cragg präsentieren zu dürfen.
Die neuen, aus Cortenstahl gefertigten "Hedges" basieren auf Naturformen der weit ausladenden Hecken-Landschaften Südenglands, wo Tony Cragg seine Kindheit verbrachte. Die vielgestaltigen Formen erscheinen elegant geschwungen und energetisch. Ihre fragil wirkende Statik widerspricht der Massivität und Schwere des Gussmaterials und versetzt den Betrachter in Staunen.
Die exuberanten Formen der Bronze- und Holzskulpturen "Skull" und "Spring", sowie "Sail", gefertigt aus weißem Onyx, vervollständigen die Ausstellung. Zusammen mit der Bronze-Skulptur "We", in der sich Dutzende Portraits des Künstlers zu einem überdimensionalen "Wir" vereinigen, geben diese Werke einen Eindruck vom überaus facettenreichen Spektrum eines der bedeutendsten Bildhauer unserer Zeit.
Anthony Cragg, dessen Skulpturen sich weltweit in zahlreichen bedeutenden Metropolen im öffentlichen Raum, in Privat- und Museumssammlungen befinden, hat vom Turner Prize bis zum Praemium Imperiale alle wichtigen Ehrungen erhalten. Seine Arbeiten wurden im Louvre gezeigt, in der Eremitage in St. Petersburg, in der TATE, im Chicago Art Institute, auf der Biennale in Venedig, auf dem Dach des Mailänder Doms und vor kurzem in einer Retrospektive im Von der Heydt-Museum in seiner Wahlheimat Wuppertal sowie im Hessischen Landesmuseum in Darmstadt. Aktuell zeigt das MUDAM in Luxembourg eine Überblicksausstellung seines Oeuvres; neue Skulpturen werden zur Zeit im Yorkshire Sculpture Park präsentiert. Der Konrad Fischer Galerie ist Tony Cragg seit 1980 verbunden.
Parallel dazu und zur Ausstellung „Marcel Broodthaers - Eine Retrospektive“ im K21 Ständehaus in Düsseldorf zeigt die Konrad Fischer Galerie in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Estate of Marcel Broodthaers eine Auswahl von skulpturalen Werken, Leinwänden, Diaprojektionen und Papierarbeiten des Künstlers aus den Jahren 1967 bis 1975.

Konrad Fischer Galerie gladly presents the exhibition "New Works" by Tony Cragg.
His most recent sculptures titled "Hedges" made of corten steel are reminiscent of the wide-stretched and spacious hedgerows in the South of England where the artist spent his childhood years. The polymorphic sculptures seem to flow elegantly while also being vibrantly energetic. Their fragile structure seemingly contradicts the compactness and heaviness of the cast steel.
The exuberant forms of the bronze and wooden sculptures "Spring" and "Skull" as well as "Sail", made of white onyx, complete the exhibition. In combination with the large-size bronze sculpture "We" in which dozens of portraits of the artist himself are joined together forming a pine cone-like superstructure these works give an impression of the multifaceted oeuvre of one of the most important sculptors of our time.
The works of Anthony Cragg are to be found in public space of many major cities as well as in institutional and private collections around the globe. He has received nearly all important distinctions, from Turner Prize to the Praemium Imperiale. His sculptural work has been on show at the Louvre, at the State Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, at TATE and Chicago Art Institute, at Venice Biennial, at the rooftop terrace of the Duomo di Milano as well as in an all-embracing retrospective at Von der Heydt Museum in his hometown of Wuppertal. Currently, the Hessische Landesmuseum in Darmstadt, the Yorkshire Sculpture Park and the MUDAM in Luxembourg feature a broad selection of his work. Tony Cragg is represented by Konrad Fischer Galerie since 1980.
Parallel to that and to the exhibition „Marcel Broodthaers - Eine Retrospektive“ at K21 Ständehaus in Düsseldorf, we gladly present an exhibition in collaboration with the Estate of Marcel Broodthaers including his works on paper, objects and slide projections from 1967 to 1975.
